Over twenty years ago, a Holmdel resident came to Police Headquarters asking for a way to better communicate with her neighbors, after burglaries had been committed close to her home.  This began Holmdel’s Neighborhood Watch Program.  The Program has grown over the years to include 80 groups throughout the Township.

The primary function of Neighborhood Watch is – “Watching Out, Helping Out.’’  It encourages residents to become more aware of activities around them as they go about their normal routines and to act as the “eyes and ears” of the police.  Participants are instructed to promptly report any unusual activity as accurately as possible to the authorities.  Criminals find it difficult to operate in any area where citizens take an active role in preventing crimes.  Neighborhood Watch is a cooperative effort among responsible citizens to improve security for themselves, their families, and their property.

The Holmdel Neighborhood Watch Program is always seeking to start groups in areas where none have been established. If you would be interested in becoming a Neighborhood Watch Captain, or wish to join an existing group, please email Lieutenant Michael Pigott or call him at 732-946-9690 ext.1742.
